What is an A3 Report?

The purpose of an A3 report is to present results or a plan of attack clearly and concisely. It is a project summary in 5-6 sections on a single piece of paper. A3 refers to the paper size (11×17). It could be the final report handed to senior management.

Designed to be all results, no fluff.

The format originated at Toyota, where the discipline of fitting a complete problem, analysis, and countermeasure onto one sheet of paper forced clearer thinking than a lengthy slide deck ever could. It pairs naturally with a DMAIC project: use it as the one-page summary you hand to a sponsor who does not have time to read the full report.
