A roundup of recent changes to the Six Sigma Study Guide Green Belt and Black Belt courses, in two parts.

Here are a few updates we made recently. We think they will make a real difference to your studying. Some came from member requests. Others came from our regular go to the Gemba walks, where we watch how the course actually gets used.

This is part 1: practice and results. Part 2 comes next Wednesday.

Quiz reviews show only what you missed

Reviewing a quiz used to mean scrolling past every question. On a 100-question mock, you dug through all 100 to find the 20 you got wrong. That was slow. It was easy to skip one.

Now the review lists only the questions you missed. Each one shows your answer, the right answer and why. The ones you got right are left out.

Example quiz review showing only the 21 missed questions out of 100, each with the correct answer and explanation

Your results tell you what to study first

Your results now open with a “What to study first” panel. It ranks each domain by how many questions you missed, with its topics underneath. “Focus here” marks the domains to work on before your next mock. Tap a domain or topic to go straight to its lesson.

The old full review page and results PDF are retired. Everything you need is on the results screen.

Mocks that match your exam

Your course now follows your exam body. Mocks, scores and study priorities match the exam you’re taking.

Your mocks follow your exam: ASQ and Villanova 8 mocks per belt, IASSC and ILSSI 6, half timed and half untimed; a Green Belt IASSC mock has 100 questions at IASSC's weights, Measure 32, Analyze 22, Define 19, Control 19, Improve 8

  • ASQ and Villanova: Green Belt and Black Belt each have 8 mocks, 4 timed and 4 untimed. The Black Belt ASQ mocks are now 150 questions, weighted to ASQ’s 2022 Body of Knowledge.
  • IASSC: a new mock module with 6 mocks per belt, 3 timed and 3 untimed. Green Belt mocks are 100 questions at IASSC’s published weights: Define 19, Measure 32, Analyze 22, Improve 8, Control 19. My Study Plan has an IASSC scorecard for those five domains.
  • ILSSI: a new mock module with 6 mocks per belt, new Green Belt questions, an ILSSI scorecard, and an “ILSSI Exam Extras” module for the topics only ILSSI tests.

To get the right mocks and scorecard, tell the course which exam you’re taking. Members: open your Membership Account page, find the “Your exam” box, and pick your exam’s organization and month. You can change it anytime.

Practice that fits your day

  • You asked for mocks you can do on a break. Half of each exam’s mocks are now untimed practice, labeled as such.
  • Mocks no longer block the rest of the course. Retake any mock, anytime.
  • Every mock passes at 80%. That’s above the real IASSC and ILSSI pass marks, on purpose.
  • Your readiness check counts first tries on timed mocks. Two in a row at 80% or better means it’s time to book your exam.

Example chart of first tries on six timed mocks: one score of 81 percent is not enough, two in a row at 83 and 86 percent means book your exam

Clearer questions

  • Hundreds of new practice questions. Hundreds more explanations reworked.
  • We studied how every question was answered and how often people got it right. Where the wording tripped people up, we rewrote it. A question should test what you know, not how well you read the phrasing.
  • That study also showed which topics people confuse most. Those topics now have detailed articles that explain them clearly.

How each question was checked: look at the answers, find wording that tripped people up, rewrite and recheck, so the question measures knowledge, not reading

Next Wednesday, part 2: your study tools

  • My Study Plan: your exam month, weekly pace, mock scores and weak areas in one place.
  • One Downloads page with every formula sheet, cheat sheet and Excel template, sorted by DMAIC phase.
  • Clearer module review pages.
  • A faster site that works better on your phone.
  • Two rules worth knowing, and what we’re building next.
