Many people have told me how helpful it is to see what others did to pass their Six Sigma exams. And nothing is more gratifying to me than catching up with site members who put in the work and were able to achieve certification.

This week I’m sharing Patrick’s account of how he passed his ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt exam.

How Patrick Got Started

I’m a holder of other certifications like CSM as well as PMP, but for some time I had that desire to learn and earn a Six Sigma Certification. I bought a number of books, registered for a number of online courses. I also purchased from American Society for Quality (ASQ).

Patrick Didn’t Get Discouraged By a Rocky Start

After some preparations I booked the exams but unfortunately I did not make it! I took some time off, but then it was my goal to pass the exams before end 2019.

This happens to people very, very often. Six Sigma exams are not easy things to pass without the right preparation. If you’ve taken a certification exam and missed the cut off, here’s what I recommend doing.

Persistence: Keep At It!

Despite having so much to read, I kept searching for something that could add value to my studies. One day I just came across an advert by Ted.

I decided to give a try, but first I decided to communicate to Ted directly and to my surprise he replied back. That act alone made me want to know more about his product. There is so much free content on his site; it was refreshing. Every time I clicked on a given topic, which also had many links to other topics. It felt like “a cocktail of knowledge in one place.”

Use a Study Guide

If you’re struggling with how to study for your exam, why not follow a directed road map to passing?

To make the long story short, I decided to register for the “Pass Your Six Sigma Green Belt Course” which has “a 30 day No Questions asked” Refund Policy. This time I put off all my notes and began to dig deeper in this study that has so much materials to read.

Additionally, there are links to videos from a number of subject matter experts (SME’s). In my opinion, Ted demystifies a number of topics such that even someone with less experience or training can grasp. But don’t take my word on face value, give it a try first.

Treat Your Studies Like a Project

I thought this was a brilliant observation by Patrick; treat your studies like a project. If you were employed as a project manager, you’d have a project plan, you’d have accountability, you would take ownership and make progress! You’d apply those best practices of project management! Why not treat studying for your Six Sigma exam like a project?

A few lessons learned are that one needs to treat the study like “a project”. Don’t rush, plan your study, attempt all questions but most importantly go back and review those questions that you got wrong, attempt the mock exams. While doing this, try to identify your weak areas and have more practice but not neglecting your strength area completely. Finally, there is a search feature, at any given time try to use it while on the site.

How it worked out

And the pay off!

Did I say I passed my exams? Yes, I passed my ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt (There is provision also for those studying for IASSC as well as Villanova Certifications).

Thanks Ted and team.
